Facebook and Instagram ads for locksmiths: skip the lockouts, sell the rekeys
Nobody locked out is scrolling Instagram. Meta ads work for the planned locksmith jobs. The offers, creative, budgets and retargeting that fit this trade.
The first thing to accept about Meta ads for a locksmith is that they will not bring lockout calls. A person locked out of their car is on Google, or on the phone with whoever Google showed first. They are not reading their feed. Shops that run "24/7 emergency locksmith" ads on Facebook spend $300 and conclude Facebook does not work.
Facebook works for everything else you do. The rekey after a move. The smart lock a homeowner has been meaning to install. The safe for the new gun owner. The landlord with 14 units who changes locks every turnover. The property manager who needs a door closer fixed before the fire inspection. Those are planned jobs, and a planned job is exactly what a feed ad can start.
Offers that fit a locksmith
Lead with a price and a situation, not with your name.
- New homeowner rekey. "Just moved in? The previous owner handed out copies. Rekey up to 4 locks, $149, same week." Target by life event (recently moved) within your service area.
- Smart lock install. "Keypad deadbolt installed, $229 including the lock, no more hiding a key under the mat." Works best with a short clip of the install and the lock opening by code.
- Landlord turnover plan. "Rekey every turnover for a flat $95 per unit, invoiced monthly." Target by job title and interest: property management, real estate investing.
- Safe delivery and bolt-down. Seasonal around tax refunds and the holidays.
- Commercial door check. "Free walk-through of your storefront exits before the fire marshal does one." Aimed at business owners and office managers.
Leads from offers like these run $8 to $30 in most markets. They are warm, not urgent. A rekey lead who filled in a form on Tuesday night is happy to hear from you Wednesday morning, and gone by Thursday. Follow up by text within the hour or the lead cools.
Creative: the van and the work, not a graphic
Phone video from a real job beats a designed graphic every time. Thirty seconds, vertical, no music needed:
- Pulling a cylinder, swapping pins, the old key no longer turning. Caption: "This is a rekey. 20 minutes a lock."
- A keypad deadbolt going on, the door closing, the code opening it.
- A safe coming off the hand truck and being bolted into a closet floor.
- A quick walk down a storefront hallway pointing at a panic bar that will not latch: "This is what the fire inspector writes you up for."
Show the tech's face and the name on the shirt. The locksmith category has a trust problem on every platform, and a face attached to a name attached to a van solves most of it. Three to five creatives per campaign, swap the weakest every two weeks.
Budget and structure
One campaign, one ad set per offer, $15 to $30 a day per ad set. A rekey offer and a landlord offer running together at $40 a day total is a real test over 14 days. Use lead forms with two or three qualifying questions (address, number of doors, when) or send to a short page with a tap-to-call and a text option. Lead forms are cheaper per lead and softer; a landing page costs more and the lead is more serious. Try both.
Do not boost posts. Boosting optimizes for likes and comments, and a comment does not book a rekey.
Retargeting
Install the pixel on your site and build audiences from site visitors, video viewers at 50%, and Instagram profile visits. Anyone who visited your rekey page or watched half the install video gets a second ad: a customer photo, a review quote, and the same price. Retargeting budgets are small, $5 to $10 a day, and the leads are the cheapest you will see.
Upload your customer list too. Past lockout customers are the best audience for a rekey or smart lock ad; they already trust you.
What to expect at 14 days
One or two offers live, 10 to 25 leads, a cost per lead you can put beside your Google number, and a handful of booked rekeys. Not a flood. Meta for a locksmith is a weekday-filling channel that pays for itself on jobs with a $150 to $400 ticket, and it compounds as the retargeting audiences grow. Compare it to Google using the Google Ads guide, and read the pricing guide before you pick the numbers in the ads; the offer price is the ad.
Frequently asked
Should the ad show my phone number or a form? Both. Put the number in the ad text for people who want to call now, and use a lead form for people who want to be called. Forms bring more leads; calls bring better ones.
How tight should the geography be? Your real drive radius, usually 15 to 25 miles. A rekey at $149 does not pay for a 50-mile round trip. Exclude the cities you will not go to.
Can I run Meta ads without a website? Yes, with lead forms. But retargeting needs the pixel, and 22.2% of locksmith listings have no site to put it on. A four-page site makes every ad dollar work harder. See the website guide.
Meta ad setup, creative and the first two weeks of management are part of the free 14-day trial. No card, text or call.
